And this is at variance with Resh Lakish; for Resh Lakish said: If a scholar-disciple has committed an offensive deed they do not 'separate' him publicly, because it is said: Therefore shalt thou stumble' in the day and the prophet also shall stumble with thee in the night, [that is to say], Keep it dark,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Do it as quietly as possible for his sake and that of the community.');"><sup>22</sup></span> like night.
